Description

John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1908, Fifth Ed.  Hard cover, 571 pages including Questions on the Text, and Index followed by a 19-page catalogue.  Good plus; brown cloth with blind stamping on covers, gilt lettering on spine.  Boards show some edge, corner and spine end wear, some spots, corners worn to boards, spine ends worn with tiny tears and losses to cloth; binding sound with slight flare to front board.  Prior owner’s name on front paste-down and end paper, copyright  and Preface page, pencil erasure on p. 137, water marks to some lower fore-edge corners with some imperfections to these pages from separating, a few short edge tears, occasional smudge.  With over 700 black & white illustrations.  ‘… designed to serve as an aid in connection with the lectures on machine-shop methods given in the Mechanical Department at the Michigan Agricultural College.  There are many questions connected with machine-shop practice which can be more systematically and economically treated in the class-room than by giving individual instruction in the shop. … In its original form the book served its purpose well at the college mentioned above, and the enlarged edition is presented with the hope that it may be equally valuable in connection with the engineering departments of other schools.’ (from Preface)
