Description

McClelland & Stewart, Toronto, 1943.  Hard cover, 246 pages.  Acceptable; green boards with red lettering on front, faded red lettering on spine.  Binding sound; edge, corner and spine end wear with a bit of fraying; no jacket but front flap has been glued onto front paste-down.  Prior owner’s name, price and book store label on front end paper; pages tanned; some age spots/splashes on some pages with all text still readable.  ‘The van Doorns are pioneers, not by choice but by necessity.  John van Doorn, Tory, a respected, successful attorney of Albany, New York, is, because of his political activities, forced to flee, and taking with him only his family, to find a new home on the upper St. Lawrence, where the sheltering boughs of the forest bend over them.’ (from flap)
