Covers show some edge, corner and spine end wear, gold colophon on front cover, gold lettering and double rules on spine; bit of a lean to the spine; binding sound. No jacket. Monochrome end papers with gift inscription on FEP; remainder of interior clean and unmarked with lightly tanned pages; faded green top stain. Dorian Gray, upon admiring a painting of himself, lamented that he would age but his portrait would remain young and beautiful. Under the influence of Lord Henry Wotton, Gray begins leading a hedonistic lifestyle. As time progresses, Gray does not age but his portrait changes, becoming more ugly with each excess.
