Description

P. J. Kenedy & Sons, New York, copyright 1879 with no other dates listed so believe 1st thus.  Hard cover, 315 pages followed by 4 pages of Opinions of the Press.  Green cloth with lettering and illustrations in black & yellow on front and spine.  Corners bumped; spine ends show some wear with a bit of fraying; stains on boards and faded water marks.  Rear hinge cracked with webbing visible, but all pages secure.  Prior owner’s name and date on FEP; remainder of interior clean and unmarked with very occasional age spot; old faded water marks visible on front paste-down and upper margin edges of first few and last pages.  Fictional account of Moondyne Joe (Joseph Bolitho Johns) from England who was sent to the British Penal Colony in Western Australia.  Although receiving a condition pardon, he was later imprisoned for various crimes, and is known for his escapes from prisons.
