Description

Random, New York, 1963, 1st pr. thus.  Hard cover, 401 pages.  Black boards with gold blocks encapsulating initials on front board and broken gold lines above and below, gold lettering and publisher’s logo on spine with blue design.  Very light edge and corner wear; spine ends lightly pushed; small water mark at upper front board.  Binding sound; a bit of sunning on top page block, fore-edge rough cut.  Dust jacket has price intact; several edge tears with some repaired on verso, large losses on spine and rear panel; some rubs, soil and creases.  Interior clean and unmarked.  Includes a short novel, two novelettes and twenty-three stories by various authors.  ‘I can promise that you are in for a full gamut of emotional reactions-barring, of course, the tender sentiments, with which I will have no truck.  I have even included a tale or two primarily for entertainment.  But do not look upon this as a sign of weakness.  Even in these tales there are underlying frissons to give a curious relish to the reading.  And there are other stories which I consider well-nigh diabolical.’ (from rear flap)
