Description

Longmans, Green, and Co., London, 1890, Ninth Edition in Two Volumes.  Hard covers; brown boards with blind rules and decorations on front and rear boards, gilt lettering on spines.  Boards show edge and cover wear, some rubs and spots.  Corners bumped and worn with some board exposed; spine ends bumped and worn with some short tears and small losses to cloth.  Binding sound with slight lean; some cracks/splits at gutters but all pages secure.  Charcoal end papers; pages lightly tanned; a few fox spots.  Volume 1 has 468 pages, Volume II has 407 pages including Index plus 24 pages of publisher’s ads; a few pencil notes on rear end paper.  Volume I deals with The Natural History of Morals, The Pagan Empire, The Conversion of Rome; Volume II deals with From Constantine to Charlemagne and The Position of Women.
