Copp Clark, Toronto, 1907; possibly First Canadian Edition.  Hard cover, 320 pages.  Green cloth with gilt lettering on front board, embossed decoration in black, red and gold; black embossed decoration on spine, gold lettering on spine mostly rubbed away; bit of a lean.  Corners lightly bumped with some wear, bits of board exposed with a touch of fraying.  Spine ends worn with tiny tears to cloth; shelf wear to bottom edges.  Some foxing on outer page block and a few small spots on boards.  No jacket.  Prior owner’s name and date in pencil on front end paper.  Front and rear paste-down papers have splits in gutters with some webbing exposed; binding still secure.  Page 13/14 is detached but laid in with wear to edges; all other pages securely bound.  Illustrated with 4 full page plates including Frontis.  Top margin of p. 64 rubbed, possibly from erasure; some straightened corner bends.  No other marks noted in interior.  Age/fox spots throughout text but do not affect readability.  Herbert Wrayson discovers a woman in his flat, going through his desk.  She believed she was in the flat of his upstairs neighbor, Morris Barnes, who is murdered later that night.  Wrayson and other members of his Club become intrigued with the murder and through amateur detective work, Wrayson discovers who the woman was, leading him to an encounter in France with her, a Baroness and spies.
