Starring Dennis Quaid, Winona Ryder and Alec Baldwin. ‘He was known as the “Killer.” A cocky kid with a shock of unruly blond hair, a wicked grin and a pumping piano style that bordered on perpetual motion. In 1956 Jerry Lee Lewis (Dennis Quaid) moved to Memphis, to make the most of his “ferocious, God-given talent.” His right hand played gospel, the left played barrelhouse rhythm and blues. Combined, they touched off a string of hits, like “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Breathless,” that played a pivotal part in the rise of rock ‘n’ roll. When Jerry Lee Lewis banged out the bass chords with his feet, rock fans howled for more. When he finished one performance by setting his piano ablaze, they mobbed the stage. But when he married his 13-year-old second cousin, Myra (Winona Ryder) and combined their honeymoon with a lightning tour of England, the scandal all but killed the “Killer’s” career.’ (from rear box)
